Anyone interested in a Sid Poole guitar ?

Sorry for the blatant commercial post, but I am seriously thinking about
selling my Sid Poole Classic in order to buy a Line 6 Variax and Vetta. The
Poole is just an amazingly beautiful guitar, but as I don't play much, I am
slimming down my guitar collection and think the Variax will get used more.

Anyway - if you know who Sid was, you'll know that this is a painful thing
for me to do, so rather than just put it up on ebay, I thought i'd see if
there's interest from this ng first....

The guitar is a Les Paul 58 copy, absolutely fantastic condition (one tiny
scratch on the body, less than 5mm) and has probably less than 100 hours
playing time on it. Gorgeous flame top, Tom Holms pickups, hard case etc,
etc. It's built far better than any Gibson I have ever seen.

If you are interested, let me know and I can post photos etc if required. As
for price, I haven't really much idea what this guitar is worth. I think it
was around £1400 new, but is probably worth at least twice that now.
Unfortunately, Sid died a few years ago, so there will be very few
opportunities to get hold of one of these rare and beautiful instruments.

I have not yet decided 100% to sell it, but knowing it would go to a good
home would [probably ease the pain of parting a little.

Sorry for the blatant commercial post,
That's ok, but put FS: at the beginning of the subject line. That
way those who don't want their newsreader cluttered with private ads
can easily filter them out.

How about posting a link to a few pics on the web?

I wouldn't.

I owned a Variax for and it and it was ok, but not briliant.
Don't get me wrong it was a versatile enough thing, but it just didn't grab
me by the nads. The actual guitar itself is very ordinary indeed. The type
of thing that would be worth £179 brand new on ebay if it weren't for the
electronics. Is that what you want to play ?
Get a piezo bridge and coil taps fitted to the Sid Poole and enjoy a lot of
the Variax experience only on a real instrument.

I think you would regret selling the Sid Poole for the rest of your days.
That's a guitar to pass on to your grandchildren. A variax never will be.

I'd keep the Sid Poole.

Must be nice having a guitar than can emulate other guitars, but there's
more satisfaction in collecting those guitars.

there is another option to the variax although it doesn't come cheap but
then again it does a helluva lot more than the variax, a roland gk pickup
and a roland vg88

you don't have to screw mount the gk and the newer gk3 has a mounting
bracket for les paul-ish bridges

Good point. Is the vg88 still the current "mutt's nuts" for midi guitar ? I
saw the Variax and thought that things must have moved on (haven't looked
closely for a couple of years). Maybe I should take a closer look at the
vg88.

I'd put the gk pickup on my Tele though - it's actually my favourite
(electric) guitar to play (my all-out favourite is my Santa Cruz
dreadnought) . I prefer the Fender scale length to the Gibson really, and
also don't particularly like the weight of the LP type guitars. The Tele
gets far more use than the Sid Poole.

I'd keep the Sid Poole.
Seems to be a recurring theme....

It's a beatiful thing indeed.

Maybe I'll just save my pennies, get a 2nd hand variax on ebay and see how I
get on.

Besides - I should be moving to a bigger house soon and might even have room
for a few more guitars. (Currently 8)

Good input - thanks. To be honest though, I wouldn't want to fit anything to
the Poole. It would alsmost be sacrilidge.

Maybe I should do that to my Tele instead.

Good point. And actually I just had a good thrash on the Poole - and you are
smack on.

It was a moment of madness. I'll just have to save some pennies for a 2nd
hand variax instead....or a VG88 and GK pickup...
