Discussion:
How to? (Change pickups on an Ibanez RG...)

I have a dearly loved Ibanez RG548 (
Loading Image... ) that I finally have
decided to do something about its naf (Non-Aurally-Fulfilling) pickups.
Starting with the bridge (the neck is kind of nice, actually). No pickguard
on this guitar.

So I went ahead and I've purchased a couple of interesting pickups on eBay
to try (a DiMarzio SuperDistortion and a DiMarzio Evolution)...

Now... the ibanez pickup is mounted directly onto the body with wood screws
(no pickguard), and the "legs" of the pickup ae suitably long to end up at
the right height under the strings. The DiMarzio ones have much shorter
legs... and if I mount them as they are they'll be well inside of the body,
and will be over 1cm away from the strings... that's not correct.

So my question is, how do you mount these?

I could use long screws with springs and hold the pickups onto these, but I
suspect they'll be a bit wobbly.
I am sure there's a few people reading this who have changed their pichups
in similar guitars... anybody care to give me a clue? :-)

You can either use longer screws or a pickup mounting ring like the RG470 -
except this won't work for the single coil.

Thanks to all those who replied. Longer screws and a piece of foam
underneath is the way to go I think.
Sorry to take long to acknowledge that I read the replies... I had problems
with the Berlin server... until I found out I just have to login to another
server since Monday...

cheers!

A true passion wagon - I particularly like the open deck.
Good luck with the weather. ;-)
