Tracking down a particular guitar

Hi,

after JN's mention of Peerless guitars a few weeks ago I've taken a
shine to the Tonemaster Custom. However finding one is proving rather
difficult. Soundsgreat in Manchester - my nearest stockist - don't
have that model but can get one in fairly easily. The only problem is
that I'd have to 'judge' it on the few different models that they have
in stock. In other words I'd have to put a deposit down and hope for
the best. They want to see how they go before they'll stock anymore.
This is fair enough but still a bit of a leap in faith. However,
every comment I've seen about Peerless guitars is extremely positive.
If they sound as good as they look then maybe I wouldn't need to
worry. I remember seeing the Shine Gretsch copies when they came out
and they looked rather nice. However, I feel that the Peerless models
are something else.

Has anyone bought a guitar by trying a similar model? Can a fair
assessment be made? Also can anyone suggest another model that might
give me a fair indication of how the Tonemaster might sound?

I would appreciate any views or comments.

Thanks in advance,

Alan

I have the same problem. Having started getting my jazz chops back
together after decades of neglect I rather fancied the Peerless Monarch.
The only place I could find who actually had one is Ivor Mairants in
London - about 200 miles away :-( A train trip might be in order...

The Tonemaster does look cool. A few years back Peerless made a ES5
copy, 3xP90s, no pickup selector, full thickness, in blonde - just
like T-Bone's - I would *really* fancy one of them.

Last time I was in Ivor Mairant's I was chatting with the man himself,
it was that long ago!

The very fact that Ivor Mairant's stock them means they are a quality
product
